Chapter 5 Post

Focus Question: What are search engines and how do they work? It is a tool the enables anyone to access online information by locating web pages that have been linked to data base.

Tech Tool: Flickr  is a website that helps people share their photos they have created and also helps people search for photos they need. The photos on this website can be divided and grouped together in certain subjects or themes and they can share a common interest. People can explore the world with just looking at photos and get in contact with photographers for events. When creating power points for class you can use some of these photos for the project.

This Chapter is mainly about search engines such as Google, Bing, and Wikipedia. It discusses how to use the information you receive wisely and learn how to site it officially. I understand the Internet critics when they speak about is online research really reading and they say no. Because most of the time students are going online to find the quick answer instead of reading the material completely. Which is why we need to teach students that most of the time the internet is just a helping tool not the complete answer and we need to show that they can receive the information they are looking for online but you have to watch what you search.  Also a lot of this chapter is about preparing the students for the future with being technology savvy. And we had a project in this very class about website evaluation and how to determine if the information is reliable or not.

Chapter 4

Focus Question:How can teachers integrate technology into their work as educators?
In the book it gave three examples 1. Classroom instructions, 2. outside the classroom activities and 3 inside and outside the classroom learning activities for students. When they were speaking about giving different ways for them to get the information they need. Power points, research engines, textbooks online are a great help as well. So instead of buying all of the books for the class you can work with a code online in order for them to read the book on their own if they wanted.
Tech Tool: NETS this web site was interesting to go through. This place is the standards for learning, teaching and leading into the new digital age. It has ways of helping the teachers and students and parents learn how to deal with the improving technology every day. They have programs that can help show you how to bring technology into the classroom.'
Chapter Summary: This chapter was finally helpful because the beginning chapters were all about how you should bring the digital world into the classroom and how it can help. Chapter four was giving examples on some tools that we can use as teachers. And was showing how they are helpful and how you can figure out how to use it. It spoke about the different levels of teachers and their exposure to technology and Inclusion and Infusion. Those two words help describe the different levels on how you can use technology everyday (infusion) compared to only when needed (inclusion).

Chapter 3 Post

Focus Question: How can teachers evaluate and assess their students?
Assessing students takes not just one class but the whole year. For the "norm" of how to assess the students is by using multiple-choice and short answer tests, essays and other written tasks. (Maloy Robert, Verock-o'Loughlin Ruth, Edwards Sharon, Woolf Beverly.Transforming Learning with New Technologies.20011 Pearson Education,Inc., publishing as Allyn and Bacon.) But their are some tools that help assess and evaluate such as : Electronic tests and quizzes, Digital Portfolios and Online Surveys and ect. ((Maloy Robert, Verock-o'Loughlin Ruth, Edwards Sharon, Woolf Beverly.Transforming Learning with New Technologies.20011 Pearson Education,Inc., publishing as Allyn and Bacon.) Using these tools is not only going to change how we can help students but a different way to read them. The normal way of grading them on a scale are FCAT and ect they are so use to this their is no where for creativity.
Tech Tool: PBS Teachers was a lot more helpful then I would have thought. Since I want to go into middle school Language arts they actually had a section for me and I could explore lesson plans, videos and more creative ideas for teaching. This one lesson plan was I thought very unique it gets the students thinking and moving To get up and Move
Chapter Summary : This chapter seemed to me a start of explaining how lesson plans come together and how teachers assess and evaluating, It does talk about the different types of assessment and how you don't have to use just the normal and what is given to you. It brings in using technology in Performance Assessment and the Student Performance Rubrics. One thing I loved about this chapter is that it does offer a good amount of help and tips in order to bring your class some creativity with using technology and creating rubrics.

Michelle's 2nd Post chapter 2

Focus question: How do students use technology for learning visually? It helps a lot for children who are visual learners. By providing them online simulations, real time data displays and analysis, online video clips and streaming video and vodcasts. (Maloy Robert,O'Loughln Ruth,Edwards Sharon,Woolf Beverly, 2011 Pearson Education, Inc, publishing as Allyn and Bacon) It helps the students who are also hands on and that need the visual in order to plug those two together they are able to be apart of the research and being able to see it right in front of them.
For the tech tool: http://visual.merriam-webster.com It was very helpful since I want to be able to go into Language Arts, its nice to be able to use this for kids who are more visual and can connect harder words to images in order to understand it better. They will be able to use this on their own and it will help out with essay for my class and FCAT they will be able to expand their vocabulary.
This chapter summary: For chapter two it was answering the more famous question "How can technology help my student or child wont it just enable them?" People are asked this all the time especailly teachers because parents are concerned that their kid wont learn if they can find it with just one click. I wasn't so sure myself  but it helps the students put the learning in their hands, they can research and find the answers on their own. You can create games and have them use competition who can find the answer the quickest or have them create a test for each other. Not only does it help the students but the teachers as well for lesson planning, student record keeping and if they are a online teacher great for that as well.

Michelle Garner 1st blog

Focus Question: How do new technologies create new opportunities for teaching and learning?
Because now in days you need to keep up with all the new things that children are getting into to keep their attention. One main thing is technology, kids are being able to work a cell phone, text and send photos by the time they are four or five. So as teachers this brings us closer to them because it gives them a chance to express themselves in a way they are into. They understand this a lot better because it is somewhat on their level. And it helps them teach the class what they can do and it helps the material stick better.

Teach Tool Link: How Stuff Works!! This website was very helpful. One of my favorite things was it was very straight forward, I am not a big fan of the technology vocabulary. This website was a easy read, one of my favorite articles was talking about what a computer needs. Software, hardware and security are some of the things that I don't quite understand and this website was helpful had videos and articles to help you understand.

Summary and Connection

This first chapter was mainly about what technology is for education and what you can do to slowly introduce it into your classroom. It was showing what you can do with technology and how it is a good thing. I have always been a little on the negative side of using a lot of technology within the class room because I would always remember in school how I would use it to make the homework easier so I can do less work. I am hoping by learning more about it I can find out tricks of my own in order to help my kids use the computer for good and not evil.
